Little girls like bedrooms that are comfortable, fun and fitting to their personality. Allowing them to direct the decorating is important because this will ensure that they get everything that they want. The great thing about little girl’s rooms is that you can often do a major makeover for relatively little money.
Walls and Floors:
Walls are the easiest thing to change. You will want to begin by choosing a main wall color and then painting the walls. From here, you can choose to use stencils, or your own artistic skills, to paint things like words and characters on the walls.
As for walls, if the floor is carpeted, just giving the carpets a good cleaning can often transform them. For wood or tile floors, add a nice rug or two that fits your decorating scheme. Rugs can also be added to carpeted floors for a splash of color and fun.
The Bed:
The bed your daughter has can be reused and with a few simple items, it can be transformed into a completely new bed. You can paint the headboard and add a new set of full bedding that matches the new scheme of the room. This is a great way to fully renew and old bed.
Window Hangings:
When it comes to little girls, safety is a top priority. Because of this, it is important to avoid any window hangings with hanging strings, such as mini blinds. Instead, choose basic window panels that can be opened and closed as needed for privacy. You can also add a sheer if you want to add a little more decoration and privacy.
Storage and Shelving:
These are very important as young girls tend to have a lot of toys, books and stuffed animals, many of which, they like to display. A nice bookcase or two can be painted to match the rest of the décor. After it dries, you and your daughter can work to place her favorite books, toys and stuffed animals on the shelves to keep them organized, as well as allow them to be a large part of the decorations needed for the room.
As for storage, it is easy to grab some old drawers, put on some small chair wheels and slide them under the bed. This will allow for plenty of storage and your daughter will be able to easily pull them out and push them back in as needed. Overflow toys, books and stuffed animals can be placed in these.
Other Furniture and Elements:
You will want to have a small desk with chair, a dresser and at least one end table in this room. An end table will allow for a small lamp to help add more light to the space, as well as allow the child to read at night if she wishes.
A small desk is important so that she can do homework, work on art or writing or just have a place to play and create. A small lamp can also be placed on this desk to add some extra light to the space.
A dresser is needed so that there is a place to put away all of her clothes. If the dresser is large and not all drawers are needed for clothing, the extra drawers can also double as extra storage space.
