Dot Girl's First Period Kit - Pink or Blue

Your daughter’s first period will certainly arrive like it did for many of us – unexpected, uninvited, and unwanted. Menstruation can be a tricky subject to tackle with your maturing daughter, but it doesn’t have to be that way. In fact, thanks to Dot Girl’s First Period Kit, it might actually be a little fun!

As a mom of three small girls, I’m not quite there with the whole ‘period’ talk yet. But as a seasoned adolescent psychotherapist, I’ve already done my share of “talking” with preteen and teen girls who had lots of questions and wanted lots of answers. The onset of menstruation is often a scary, confusing, and difficult time for young girls as they suddenly realize they are well on their way to adulthood. Aside from the psychological aspects a girl’s first period brings, are the physical and hormonal changes. Periods can be accompanied by cramps, abdominal pain, mood swings, and even depression. That’s why it’s so important for moms and dads to have ‘the period talk’ with their daughters to help ease the transition and calm unrealistic fears girls my have about what happens when they get their period. Middle school brings with it lots of unpredictable – and often unfounded – rumors about what a girl’s period is like, so it’s up to parents to take the lead in this important discussion.

That’s where Dot Girl’s First Period Kit comes in handy. The Dot Girl’s kit was founded on the principal that sometimes it’s easier for daughters to discuss certain ‘topics’ with their parents if you have the information presented to you in a concise, informative, and ‘fashionable’ way. Yes, I said ‘fashionable.’ These kits are cute! And more importantly, they contain everything your daughter needs to know about what to expect and when to expect it.

What’s in the Dot Girl’s First Period Kit?

* The Dot Girl’s First Period Guide® , a 12-page booklet with answers to common questions
* The Dot Girl’s Period Calendar®, a simple way for a girl to track her periods
* One Ultra Thin Kotex® Pad With Wings
* Two Kotex® Lightdays® Panty Liners
* Kotex® product brochure (product claims only valid within the U.S.)

The Pink Scoop: I really like the fact that the Dot Girl’s First Period Kit encourages interaction and conversation between parent and child. Your daughter can read the “First Period Guide” included in the kit and then ask follow-up questions or you can approach her to ask if she would like to ‘chat’ about what she has read. As we know, many girls simply don’t want to talk about it, but with this kit, parents at least know that their daughters are getting good, medically sound advice about their period and have all of the ‘facts.’

In addition, the kit by design looks just like a cute cosmetic case so your daughter doesn’t need to feel embarrassed putting it in her purse. And if it falls out of her bag in gym class – no one will know what it is (and we all know those situations are highly possible!). Plus, the size is the perfect fit for most purses and it holds just enough to get your daughter through the a day at school.

  1. Thanks so much for this! I have four girls. I’ve had the period talk with my oldest, so she knows what to expect for the most part. I plan to buy her this kit to complement what I have already told her.

    I’m so glad you found the kit helpful. When I found it online, I thought it was a great product and a helpful way to supplement talking with girls about their periods. When my daughters are old enough, I’m buying one too :-)
