Middle School Confidential by Annie Fox, M.Ed.

middleschool

Augh, middle school, we all remember it – the drama, friendships, crushes and lots of hormones! And as much as parents remember their middle school years, it’s inevitable that our daughters will remember it too! Thank goodness for the Middle School Confidential series! Author Annie Fox, an award-winning author and educator, has created a set of books that guides tween girls (ages 11-14) through the perils and triumphs of the middle school experience. Each book chronicles a group of 7th graders as they try to overcome challenging obstacles and navigate the world of teen drama.

The Middle School Confidential series includes real-life testimony from girls as well as helpful and fun ‘quizzes’ to help girls sort through their feelings. For example, in Middle School Confidential: Real Friends vs. the Other Kind, Fox does a remarkable job of laying out familiar middle school scenarios when it comes to making and keeping friends. She asks girls to interact with the characters in the book by answering questions about “What would a friend do?” This exercise helps tween girls recognize attributes they want to have in ‘true’ friends and friends they live without.

Each chapter is written in ‘tween speak’ (aka language your preteen daughters can understand) and takes into consideration this age groups short attention span by making reading sysinct and fun. Fox has done a marvelous job of ‘reading’ tween girls minds and knows exactly what to ask and how to ask it. Indeed, the Middle School Confidential series are a must-have for tween girls!
