Are you looking for fun things to do with your toddler on a rainy day or during the long, hot days of summer? Then try making, sculpting, pounding, and shaping these ultra cool homemade art recipes for fun that will last for hours! These fantastic, slimy creations will get lots of giggles from your daughter and are very cost effective (something that every parent loves). So, say so-long to the same old boring crafts, and hello to a whole new world of goo!
Create Awesome Art Stuff:
• Slime (aka Silly Puddy). Nickelodeon’s got nothing on this great gooey slime!
What you’ll need: Liquid starch & Elmer’s Glue.
What you need to do: Mix equal parts of liquid starch and Elmer’s glue. Knead until it’s at a consistency that is easy to work with. You may have to add more glue if it’s too gooey. Add some fun by dropping in some food color. Store it in an air-tight container.
Watch out: This gooey concoction may stick to your child’s clothes and hair. Children should wear paint shirts. Use a little white vinegar to remove they slime from clothing and hair.
• Macaroni Madness.
What you need: Macaroni, food coloring, and Ziploc baggies.
What you need to do: This is a great, mess-free way to color macaroni. In a Ziploc bag add a couple of handfuls of macaroni and some food coloring. Seal the bag and shake the bag until all of the macaroni is colored. Lay it out on paper towels to dry. Once dry, your daughter can make cool macaroni necklaces and bracelets by stringing it through a piece of yarn. She can also make her own macaroni picture by gluing it to a piece of paper.
• Globs of “Goop.”
What you need: 2 cups salt, 2/3 cup water, 1 cup cornstarch, and 1/2 cup cold water.
What you need to do: Mix the salt and water, heat for about 4 minutes. Remove from heat and quickly add cornstarch and cold water. Stir rapidly. Return to heat briefly if it’s too goopy.
• Perfectly Puffy Paint.
What you need: Shaving Cream (handful), food coloring, paint brushes, sponges, mixing bowls, and glue.
What you need to do: Mix equal amounts of shaving cream and glue. Add a couple of drops of food coloring to the mixture. Mix everything together and let the puffy painting begin!
• Edible Peanut Butter Play Doh.
What you need: 1/2 cup peanut butter, 1/4 cup honey, 1 cup non-fat dry milk, and 1/2 cup oatmeal (optional).
What you need to do: Eat it! Mix everything together and make a cool sculpture. Then let your toddler dig in!
• Gobs of Glitter.
What you need: Flour, water, salt, and food coloring.
What you need to do: Mix equal parts of flour, water and salt together. Pour the mix into plastic squeeze bottles (you can use empty ketchup or mustard bottles). Add the food coloring to create your child’s favorite color. Squeeze mix onto construction paper (paper should be sturdy). The glitter will shimmer when it dries from the salt mixed in it.
